I februari i år antog EU-parlamentet en rapport som är starkt kritisk mot flera europeiska länders inblandning i utomrättsliga transporter av personer från ett land till ett annat.
Snart blir Portugal ordförandeland i EU och bör som ordförandeland agera för att EU:s medlemsstater genomför opartiska och genomskinliga utredningar av eventuell inblandning i renditions.

Dear Mr Prime Minister
As a European citizen, I write to you regarding the European Parliament's Report, approved
on 14 February 2007, that documented the CIA's alleged use of European countries for the
rendition and unlawful detention of prisoners. I urge you, as the coming President of the
EU Council, to ensure that the report's recommendations are complied with. Specifically, an
independent investigation should be commissioned and hearings held as soon as practicable.
It is imperative that all Member States provide information to the investigators. The Council
should also take appropriate corrective and remedial measures including, when necessary,
penalties on Member States in case of a serious and persistent breach of Article 6 of the
Treaty on European Union which enshrines the Human Rights principles and rule of law
which all Member States should comply with.
